ARLD Day 2012: Call for session proposals

The Academic & Research Libraries Division (ARLD), with support from the Public Libraries Division (PLD) of the Minnesota Library Association (MLA) and Minnesota Educational Media Organization (MEMO), is seeking session proposals for 2012 ARLD Day, April 27, 2012, at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.

Last year, ARLD Day tackled the rise of mobile devices and their effects on libraries. Now we turn to transliteracy—the skills needed to “communicate meaning between media” as defined by our keynote speaker, Lane Wilkinson, from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Learn more about 2012 ARLD Day.

We encourage you to submit a session proposal for the 2012 ARLD Day! Please complete the session proposal form. We encourage anyone, including current MLIS students, to submit a presentation. Our planning committee will select presentations and notify presenters in early March 2012.

ARLD Day session types will include:

  • Breakout sessions – Breakout sessions are 45-60 minutes long and include presentations, panel sessions, workshops, etc.
  • Lightning round sessions – Lightning round sessions maximize the amount of information shared about innovative and exciting projects, services, or ideas. Each presenter (or small group) will be given five minutes to present on a topic, followed by three minutes of audience Q&A.

Possible presentation topics might include:

  • Teaching and learning
  • Transliteracies, information, and 21st century literacies
  • Mobile and e-learning
  • Reference and outreach
  • Assessment and impact
  • Social networking
  • Collaborative technologies and multimedia

ARLD Day, an annual spring conference, is widely agreed to be one of Minnesota’s best opportunities for library professionals to network with each other. If you are interested in presenting at ARLD Day 2012, please complete the online proposal form.

Submit a proposal online.

The deadline for proposals is February 27, 2012. Questions? Contact Kate Peterson at katep@umn.edu.
