2010 Legislative Day
Talk Is Cheap. Advocate, Advocate, Advocate!
2010 Library Legislative Day is an opportunity for library advocates (whether they work or volunteer in libraries or simply love them) to join other advocates at the State Capitol to show solidarity and raise awareness. Attendees should make appointments to meet as many of their Representatives and Senators as possible to remind them of the importance of libraries to the success of the communities in their district. The MLA/MEMO Platform and accompanying Talking Points will be available to help guide attendees in their advocacy.
More than anything, legislators need to see that their constituents value libraries and be reminded that they should, too.

Here’s what’s new for our 2010 event:
- Price: Acknowledging the pinch on personal and organizational budgets these days, the registration fee is only $20 per attendee and includes a briefing the evening before. We hope the lower fee will encourage a record turnout—especially critical when money is scarce and many other groups will be stalking the Capitol halls advocating for their own important causes.
- Lunch: Lunch is on your own. The Grand Café in the Capitol building will be open until 2:00PM. Other venues are located nearby.
- Location: We will be meeting in the State Office Building this year.
- Parking: The State Office Building is located across the street from the Sears lot. Sears parking passes are $5 for the day and can be purchased with your registration. Passes can also be purchased on the day of the event; however, the briefing begins at 8:30AM and Sears opens at 9:00AM, so you are encouraged to pre-register and purchase your parking pass in advance to ensure that it is available when you need it.
There are many advocacy groups that legislators hear from. If libraries are not well represented, funding may go elsewhere. Please register now and join us. See you February 24th!
