2009 Legislative Forum
The Legislative Forum is an opportunity for library employees, Trustees, Friends, and other advocates to begin planning for 2010. All members of MLA and/or MEMO are encouraged to attend. What are the important issues regarding state and local funding? What might be the consequences of the recent, and turbulent, legislative session? Unallotment? What can we look forward to in next year’s bonding bill?
As chair of the House Cultural and Outdoor Resources Finance Division, Rep. Mary Murphy (DFL-Hermantown) was instrumental for the inclusion of libraries as Legacy Fund recipients. As a result, public libraries will be receiving $4.25 million in FY2010 and FY2011 for arts and cultural heritage programming. It is to her committee that libraries will report on how those funds were used. For this reason alone, attending the Legislative Forum on July 21 will be imperative for all library leaders.
Come hear this champion of libraries as we ponder what the next legislative session might bring. Most importantly, come help determine MLA/MEMO’s legislative platform priorities for 2010—and help lead the Minnesota library community into an exciting future!
Rep. Murphy will be joined by Representative Larry Haws (DFL-St. Cloud). Lunch and refreshments are included.
