Old Business
1. Organizational issues
a. Election results and new Board members
Kristen (member communications); Robin (Chair Elect); Jim (Chair); Victoria (Past Chair)
b. Open positions (volunteers?)
· Legislative liaison Robin and Karen are making a webinar with FAQ approach to attending legislative day and what to do (where to park, how to talk to your legislator, what if I don't know all of the platform issues, )
Robin will write up something about the position to be sent to Victoria, who will forward to Carla Pfahl, Deb Bergeron, Gretchen Pyle, and Jane Ann Nelson to see if they are interested. Michael Bloomberg could be contacted (by Jim) for more ideas if none of the above are able to serve.
· web person Deb is interested in continuing this too as her first pick; Victoria will contact Carla Pfahl to see if she is interested
· ARLD Dialogues - we would like someone who can come to meetings occasionally; Jim will check with Kim Clark and Lynne Weber.
· LIS school liaison Lynne Weber will continue
· Stephanie is interested in continuing; we will discuss possible opportunities at next meeting (event planner? etc. depending on who else can continue).
Related: MLA hosted reception for St. Kate's graduates. Jim was there and announced that there may be some volunteer opportunities. He will let us know if he hears anything. 15 students graduated and were given a certificate granting them 1 free year in MLA. ARLD volunteer opportunities: helping with ARLD and MLA Day. Wiki and blog?? Is it worth updating? Put on agenda for January or Feb.
2. ARLD Day Victoria reviewed spring 2006 event for new board members
Monday April 30, 2007 is this years' event
a. Venue: Earle Brown Conference Center in Brooklyn Center (Park?); budget review (Victoria's handout); 2007 estimate now $1500 for room rental-includes two breakout rooms; min for food and drink is $2000 (spent $2030 last year) plus tax of 25% = $675. Had $500 sponsorship for food last year, which included registrations. Final last year was in the black but goes to MLA. Victoria will be checking out venue and rooms, and looking at menu. Registration fee $60 (was $50 last year). EBSCO and LexisNexis interested in sponsorship; we should check with CSA too.
b. Theme and Keynote speakers
Discussed ideas from last time: Power of persuasion (from B3) & good presentation skills; K-12 Higher Ed/Info Lit connection; Cody Hanson's Podcasting session; metadata practical, hands on; web/Library 2.0; institutional repositories; Digitization & institutional repositories together; New technology-Web 2.0 together; Also; varying information tech skills for students and related, information literacy skills in business we could bring in library school students. Idea: Chris Anderson (Long Tail guy) editor of Wired, Kate saw him, he is very good speaker Joan Lippincott (former CNI) talking about new users.
Final suggestions:
· John Riedl at U of MN Kate will check informally and see if he is available and how to contact him officially with "Find More Like This " as a topic. Victoria will formally extend invitation to speaker.
· Susan Gibbons, U Rochester (Anthropology) as another idea re: new faculty/library collaborations, or researching research habits.
c. Timeline: (Review of procedures manual)
3. Library School liaisons (Weber and Newsome)
a. Update: Still trying to put together letter & brochure for LIS students; plan to send out after next meeting. Were waiting for new student dues to come out, and now want to wait until after break. Barb is involved, Jim will contact her about getting a new draft out. Kate will continue as liaison with MLA
