1. OLD BUSINESS
A. MLA Annual – Most of this discussion ended up in the “Action Item” list (see above). The deadline for pre-registration is September 4th. The ARLD business meeting will be a luncheon. Potential agenda items will be ARLD Day, the national ACRL meeting in Minneapolis (2006?), and the benefits of membership. Last year ARLD sessions had a separate evaluation form, which provided beneficial program suggestions, but also was confusing for attendees. This year we will use the standard ARLD evaluation and solicit program suggestions and other comments through the ARLD listserve.
B. Best Practices in Instruction. We discussed whether “Instruction Club” is an appropriately professional designation for the best practices sessions and decided that “ARLD Instruction Dialogues” is a better name. Jane Ann and Laura Dale will organize the first Twin Cities session in October. We will order box lunches and start lunch at 12:00 pm. Session will begin with introductions and 30 minute presentation to be followed by questions and sharing.
C. Welcoming New Academic Librarians to Minnesota. Laurel will take the lead. We will make inquiries through the listserve and send welcome letters to the new librarians.
2. NEW BUSINESS
A. Summary of the year’s activities. We need to provide the MLA board with a summary of the past year’s activities and initiatives as well as create ACRL Chapter Notes. We will highlight the fall conference programs and the development of the ARLD Instruction Dialogues program.
B. Minnesota Library Council. The Minnesota Library Council is involved in preliminary planning for the state structure for libraries. They would like to include two academic librarians, one from a public institution and one from a private institution, for a one-year appointment. We will solicit participants through the listserve and through individual conversations.
C. ARLD. We need to start planning this and survey our members about whether they prefer a full-day or a half-day conference. We need to get a date that doesn’t conflict with other library events in the Twin Cities. Wendy Lougee could be the keynote speaker.
3. Adjournment
