ARLD’s list of events and activities for the year was summarized.  Highlights included

1) the  ARLD Dialogue at Mankato on Wiki, blogs, rss, etc. done by ------------ A modified version of this presentation was repeated at the Annual Conference with co-presenter Victoria Peters. One audience member suggested it could be turned into an interesting webinar.

2) a Strategic Marketing session at St. Cloud State- presented by Susan Motin of SCS. The program was  based on training she received when attending ALA ’s @Your Library  program.

3) The Annual Conference in Minneapolis concluded with numerous presentations, and 16 poster sessions from 10 institutions.  Several people praised ARLD’s input to the conference.

4) The national ACRL Conference was held in Minneapolis in April, so no ARLD Day was held this year.

5) Julia Kelly is in the process of finalizing a Board Procedures Manual.

Future events were described.

1) There will be a  repeat of the Marketing Session to be held at  Northwestern Health Sciences U. on Oct. 21.st  Bill deJohn will look into sponsoring this in small communities in an ongoing series.  University of Minnesota Duluth volunteered their library space as one possible venue.   Several meeting attendees highly praised Susan Motin for the excellent Marketing session she did in St. Cloud .

2) Another ARLD Dialog is being planned for the upcoming year- probably a lunch gathering.

3) ARLD Day 2006 will be April 28th at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.

4) Julia Kelly reported on the Memo/MLA Info rmation Literacy group which is meeting about info lit issues.  The group represents  publics, academics, K-12s, and multitypes in Minnesota . They are involved in developing a common language for talking about Info . Lit. between library types, and in creating online tutorials across the community to  raise awareness among their constituents. They are also exploring several locally based research projects, one of note being some sort of  multi-institution survey of info lit skills of first year college students, trying to support the hypothesis that lack of Secondary School Librarians or Media Specia lists correlates with low information literacy outcomes for high school grads.  The planning is still at the formational stage.  Julie encouraged those present to get involved in the projects as they develop.

Victoria Peters reported on the upcoming ARLD Elections:

Elected Board positions and their duties were described.  The deadline for expressing interest in them was set at October 15.th  Volunteer board positions were also discussed: the web coordinator, the coordinator for ARLD Dialogs and Strategic Marketing workshops, and the Legislative Liaison.  People were encouraged to run for office, or volunteer.

People were also encouraged to use the ARLD lists erv, and to consider being a presenter at future programs.

The ARLD Brochure was described.

A meeting attendee, Sue Zuriff, has previously served on the ARLD Board, and strongly endorsed the positive experience.

At this point the new MLA Executive Director Barb Vaughan was introduced.  She thanked ARLD for its active involvement in the organization, and expressed interest in working with us in the future.

People were thanked for attending, and the meeting adjourned.

Faithfully submitted,

Jim Newsome,

ARLD Secretary
