Assistant Director
SELCO seeks energetic librarian for full-time, 40 hours per week, challenging administrative position. The successful candidate must have proven ability to fulfill job responsibilities and job requirements, listed below, to serve in a dynamic regional environment.
- Consult with and advise member libraries of all types about available services, programs, grants and workshops
- Work with SELCO and SELS Advisory Committees and other work groups
- Serves as chief administrator in the absence of the Executive Director
- Supervisory experience in a dynamic staffing environment required as Assistant Director supervises staff assigned to Library Support Services work group including: ILL, cataloging and special project staff
- Provide leadership and direction for maintenance of the SELCO bibliographic database
- Provide leadership and direction for interlibrary loan
- Provide leadership and direction for SELCO/SELS training program
- Organize material, compile background information and draft texts for grant applications and proposals and administer grants in the manner prescribed by the funding sources
- Participate as active member of SELCO management team collaborating on the planning for future activities, coordinating projects and services.
- Assist with fiscal planning and organizational management of SELCO and SELS.
- Assist in the management and direction of SELCO staff, maintaining a collaborative and respectful workplace environment
- Assist with advocacy efforts at the local, state and national levels
- Participate in professional activities at the regional, state and national level
- Keep current on emerging developments in the field through attendance and participation in conferences and workshops, professional reading and research
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited school required
- Additional management coursework or Masters in related management preferred
- Work experience in more than one type of library preferred
- Excellent computer skills and familiarity with electronic information resources including databases and the Internet and knowledge of relevant software applications required
- Knowledge of concepts, principles, techniques and practices of grant writing and grant administration preferred
- Proven ability to organize and prioritize work projects, as well as implement and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures necessary for providing quality service required
