Participants spent their days learning about leadership styles and perspectives, hearing from leaders in the library and business communities, discovering strengths, and setting goals. Evenings allowed time to relax around the fire, get to know one another, and enjoy live entertainment with Comedy Sportz.
The MILE Retreat is just the beginning of their leadership experience. Over the next year and a half, participants will meet with a mentor who will help them move toward meeting their professional goals; participate in an MLA committee, program, or initiative; foster professional relationships with other librarians around the state; and plan the 2011 Leadership Institute.

The MLA Leadership Institute provides participants with the opportunity to:
- Develop and refine skills necessary to be a leader in the libraries of tomorrow.
- Develop and move forward on professional and personal goals.
- Network and make connections with people in the broader community.
- Reflect on the variety of leadership opportunities available at the local, regional, and state levels.
- Be matched with and work with a mentor for several months following the Institute.
